Day 70
Today I will be taking the beets home to plant them in my garden. I made sure the beets were very wet before putting them in the ground. When I did plant them in the ground I planted them about 3 inches deep including the soil it was already in. I wanted to make sure the stems had lots of support so they wouldn't break in the wind. Since the tray was too wide for the garden rows I cut down the middle of the tray with an equal about of beets on each side. Then placed them length ways in the garden.

Day 68
The height of the beets is 24 cm tall. The soil was dry so I watered them. On beets there won't be any flowers nor will I be able to see the beets growing.
Day 66
I had to water the beets a lot because I won't be able to water them over the weekend I didn't water the beets the day before because they were still wet. There are about 40 leaves in total and there are baby leaves starting to grow!
Day 64
There are really starting to grow they are also very healthy. There are about 40 leaves they soil was fairly dry so I watered them again. I will probably water them everyday now because if I don't water them they will probably die.

Day 62
After the weekend the soil was dry so I watered it a lot because I don't know if they were dry the two days of the weekend or they were just drying out Sunday
Saturday, May 30, 2015
Day 59
The beets are growing well there are 33 leaves and the height is 17 cm total and the stems are about 12 cm in height.
Day 57
The soil was dry so I had to water the beets. There are 33 leaves but some are small because they are a few that are just starting to grow!
Day 52
Today the soil was dry so I watered the beets again now that there is more roots it doesn't take 3-5 days for the roots and the stems to soak up the water.

Day 49
After the 3 day weekend, the beets were a little dry. They were still alive and still growing pretty good so far although there is only 17 leaves and the height is 12 cm tall and the stem is 8 cm.
Day 45
Today the soil was dry so I had to water them. There are 17 leaves and the height is only about 11 cm total.

Day 43
Today the beets look a lot more healthier then they were last week and the first of this week. When I took the dead leaves and stems off they seem to been growing better. Today the soil was dry and I needed to water them.
Monday, May 11, 2015
Day 41
Monday the soil was still wet so I didn't water but, however I did have to take some stem and leaves off to reduce the amount of energy that was going to dead leaves. Now there is a total of 28 leaves.
Day 38
Today the soil was wet but I had to water them a little for over the weekend there is a total of 38 leaves, the height of the beet stem is 9 cm and 16 cm all together. Lately they've been on the window sill rather then under the lights and they've been doing better with actual sunlight.
Thursday, May 7, 2015
Day 37
Today the soil was a little bit on the dry side, but there are new leaves starting to grow and we watered it a little bit to make the soil wet since there is more soil that needs to be moist enough to keep all the scattered beets moist enough so they would dry out. Since we planted them in new soil the beets height is the same 9.5 cm to leaves and 16 cm to top.
Wednesday, May 6, 2015
Day 36
Today I took the beets and transplanted them into the tray and I am leaving them out of the light for the roots to adjust to the soil. Before I took them out of the pot the soil was moist, but when I put them into the tray with more soil. The newer soil was somewhat dry so once i put all the beets in to the tray I watered them.

Day 34
Its now May and we watered the leaves and set them out of the light till the water dried into the leaves or had dripped off. There is a total of 34 leaves and there is still no flowers.
The next day I put water in the tray and measured 9.5 cm to the leaves so that is how long the stem is and to the top it was 16 cm.

Day 30
The soil was wet but at the end of class we put water in the tray for over the weekend. Lately we've been switching back and forth between the lights and sunlight. The height to the stem was 6 cm and to the top was 13 cm.
Day 29
Yesterday we put miracle grow over the top of the leaves and in the tray. Today the soil was wet and I didn't water them. The Stems were 6 cm long and the total height was 12 cm. Although there not all the same but that was the height of all of them. I counted the amount of leaves and there is about 30 leaves total. Also about 6 leaves per stem.
Monday, April 27, 2015
Day 27
Today the soil was still wet and I didn't water them but we did move them back to the lights.
The height is 6 cm to the leave and 10.5 to the top.
The height is 6 cm to the leave and 10.5 to the top.
Day 24
Since today is Friday we put water in the tray since we wouldn't be able to check on them during the weekend, even though the soil was wet. The stem was starting to grow another leave so now there is 5 leaves per stem. With still 12 stems. 5.6 cm to the leave and 10 cm to the top. Over the weekend we had them on the window sill.
Thursday, April 23, 2015
Day 23
The soil was wet but we added more water to the leaves and we also put them on the window sill because they needed actual sun light. the height today was 5.5 cm tall
Tuesday, April 21, 2015
Monday, April 20, 2015
Day 20
Today the soil was wet and the stems were falling over so I added soil and watered the dry soil so the beets wouldn't die. The beets were 5.0 cm tall with 4 leaves per stem with a total of 12 stems.
Friday, April 17, 2015
Day 17
On the 17th day of this process the soil was wet and since it was a Friday. We put water in the tray so the beets wouldn't dry out over the weekend. The height of the beets were 4.7 cm with 4 leaves per stem with a total of 12 stems.
Wednesday, April 15, 2015
Day 15
Today the soil didn't need to be water because it was still wet from yesterday when I watered it. Ever since I put soil higher around the stems the beet stems stand up straight since the leaves are bigger then the stems.
Tuesday, April 14, 2015
Day 14
Today we had to water the soil because the soil was dry and didn't want the beets to die so I watered them and when i watered them a few stems had fell over so i just stood them up with soil around the stems
Monday, April 13, 2015
Day 13
It's 13 days in on our growing beets projects so far there is 12 stems out of the soil and starting to get 4 leaves on each stem. The beets at 4.5 cm tall and since it was a weekend on Friday we filled the tray with about a 1" of water and it was all gone today (Monday) but the soil was still wet so we didn't water them.
Some of the stems fell over, all I did was put a little soil around the stems so the stems will grow and have some strength when they get taller and not just fall over and die.

Checking Back After A 4 Day Weekend

So we planted the beets last Wednesday its now Tuesday a week later and we've came back to school seeing that our beets had a good start at growing!
The soil was still wet when we checked the moisture so we didn't water them. Although on the long weekend we filled the tray with lots of water so they wouldn't dry out. Also had the lights on them 12 hours a day (6:00am - 6:00pm)
The beets have parallel veins
The height of the beets are currently 3.5 cm tall and there is two leaves per stem at the moment. In total with the 7 seeds we planted on Wednesday there is now 10 stems. Each steam has two leaves.
Over the weekend we observed that the beets wouldn't had even shown up out of the soil. But we figured that having really good soil put a boost on the starting process.
The light intensity is 500 lx

The temperature of the soil is 28 degrees Celsius
pH of the soil is 6.5 Alkaline

Beginning process
You first want to fill your pot or tray with soil. Use enough soil to allow the roots to begin later in the process of growing your beets.
We then watered the soil first before putting the seeds in the soil. To make sure the seeds didn't go down further in the soil if we watered them immediately after.
We measured 1" deep in the soil for the seed to be planted. Include a label if your planting multiple of different seeds and don't want to get them mixed up.
We made three holes that were about 2" apart from each.
We used 7 seeds because there were two small ones. We put two seeds in two holes and three in the third hole.
We then put the beet seeds in the holes.
Put the soil lightly on top and don't pack the soil tightly on top. You want to have space for the seeds in the soil.
Put Plastic wrap over the top of your planted seeds. Put a little pinhole in the wrap to allow some air but not to much and not to have it at a really hot temperature.
Place it under a light or in a greenhouse. If using a light, the lights acts like the sun.
